Ford Explorer Sport

The first-ever performance version of the Ford Explorer arrives this year with the highest projected fuel economy among gasoline-engine-powered, high-performance SUVs.
With a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® V6 engine making at least 350 horsepower and four-wheel drive with a Terrain Management System™, Ford Explorer Sport delivers enhanced on-road dynamics with sporty design cues inside and out.
"Adding an EcoBoost drivetrain to Ford Explorer Sport delivers even more fuel efficiency and performance to the lineup," said Bill Gubing, Explorer chief engineer. "This is our highest-performance, most capable Ford Explorer ever."
Power, capability, fuel efficiency
Completely new for 2011, the Ford Explorer has been winning over customers with its improved on-road handling, impressive comfort and convenience technologies, and fuel economy never before delivered by an SUV.
For the 2013 model year, Ford Explorer Sport brings high-performance SUV power and projected fuel economy of up to 16 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highway - anticipating 3 mpg better in the city and 2 mpg on the highway than the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango R/T 5.7-liter Hemi engines. It scores 3 mpg higher in the city and 4 mpg higher on the highway than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

"Ford Explorer Sport makes no compromises," said Carl Widmann, vehicle engineering manager. "By carefully beefing the chassis and suspension, precisely calibrating the Terrain Management System and adding comfort and convenience features, we've delivered an SUV that delivers great dynamics and performance - while towing up to 5,000 pounds."
The Ford Explorer Sport features a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission with a unique 3.16 to 1 final drive ratio to provide the balance of responsive acceleration and economical low-rpm cruising for better fuel efficiency.
The chassis also has been specially reinforced, making Ford Explorer Sport stiffer and improving its handling.
Ford Explorer Sport also brings a solid-mounted electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) rack with a faster ratio, providing more responsiveness to drivers both on-road and off.
Ford's newest SUV comes standard with larger brakes for shorter stopping distances and better performance while towing.
Ford Explorer Sport also has received special terrain management settings for tackling sandy, snowy, rutted mud and hill descent.
"Upgrading to Sport specification enabled us to maintain the standards of traditional Explorer capability plus delivering the highest highway fuel efficiency among gasoline-engine-powered, high-performance, three-row SUVs," Widmann said.
Subtle, sporty design elements
Sport builds on Explorer's muscular, sculpted form with subtle cues to differentiate it from other models in the lineup. Available in four exterior colors - Ruby Red Metallic Clearcoat, White Platinum Metallic Tri-Coat, Tuxedo Black Metallic and Ingot Silver Metallic - Ford Explorer Sport has unique 20-inch painted and machined wheels, features blacked-out headlamp and taillamp treatments, black roof rack rails, sideview mirror skull caps and a liftgate appliqué.
The Ford Explorer Sport's special grille is a low-gloss Sterling Gray mesh, with contrasting ebony high-gloss bars. The black front lower fascia features a functional opening for additional cooling. Explorer logotype in billet-like black adds a bold identity statement. Subtle Sport and EcoBoost badges at the rear finish the liftgate.
Inside, the high-end feel continues. Charcoal Black leather-trimmed seating is available with and without contrasting Sienna inserts.

The interior design contrast was inspired by fashion, mirroring two-tones that are currently seen in leather accessories and apparel from design houses Balenciaga and Prada. Stitching is emphasized to lend a handcrafted appearance while highlighting Ford Explorer Sport's sculptured seats.
Ford Explorer Sport also has unique steering wheel stitching, a technical look to instrument and door panel appliqués, unique Sport-logo floor mats and illuminated scuff plates.

Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang - the icon of American performance and style - gets even more street swagger with a new design and a list of smart features that signal even more technology in the popular pony car.
"The new Mustang is the perfect example of continuing to build on excellence. It takes the greatness of the 5.0-liter and V6 and pushes the refinement to the next level," said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. "The car has been spot-on functionally and now we're adding more features and technology to further improve the driver's experience."
More aggressive design
The new model Mustang, which goes on sale in spring 2012, offers a more aggressive design with a significantly more prominent grille. A more powerful splitter adds to that appearance. Functional heat extractors on the hood of the GT were specifically placed and designed to help move hot air out of the engine compartment and cool the engine.
"We are delivering a more distinctive and emotional design presence that celebrates the total performance of Mustang," said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. "This latest Mustang design is very respectful of its heritage while continuing to look forward with a more powerful and modern look."
Rocker panels running along the car are now body-color, making for a more premium appearance. The rear has been updated with a high-gloss black panel that connects the taillamps. Keeping the sequential turn signal Ford Mustang is known for, the taillamps also deliver a smoked appearance that matches the more purposeful look up front.

Also new for Ford Mustang design are standard high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on both V6 and GT cars. Signature lighting plays into the technology upgrades for 2013 as well, with two individual light-emitting diode (LED) bars accentuating the front headlamps and three LED ropes forming the iconic three-bar rear lights.
The new Ford Mustang offers a revamped wheel lineup, ranging from the standard 17-inch wheels for V6 all the way up to 19-inch optional wheels on the GT and V6 Performance Package. With updated designs, the wheels also offer new finishes and touches for a more powerful appearance.
There are two different finishes on the 17-inch wheel - machined-aluminum and painted. Three optional V6 wheels include an 18-inch polished aluminum set, an updated 18-inch painted aluminum and a 19-inch painted wheel design, with a new theme for the V6 Performance Package.
The standard 18-inch painted aluminum wheel on both GT and premium GT is an evolution of the five-spoke design. The 19-inch optional GT wheel comes with a gloss-black finish with machined face for a more sinister look.
The new car also offers mirrors with pony projection light, which casts the image of Ford Mustang's famous pony emblem on the ground when the unlock button is activated. New colors - Deep Impact Blue and Gotta Have It Green - join the existing sporty colors for 2013.
Also new on V6 and GT are optional leather-trimmed or cloth Recaro® seats that are currently available on the Shelby GT500 and Boss 302. Designed to enhance the high-performance driving experience, lateral bolsters in the cushion and seatback are used to ensure drivers have the support needed on the track during hard cornering and to deliver a comfortable ride.
The seats also come complete with integrated head restraints with ample room for drivers and passengers wearing helmets when at the track. Openings on the seatback are included for customers looking to create performance setups for their car on track days. The Recaro seats are the result of a global team effort led by SVT along with the Ford Mustang engineering group in North America, Team RS in Europe and Recaro.
New driving technologies
The 2013 Mustang with 5.0-liter engine will now deliver 420 horsepower. Based on learnings from developing the high-output 444-horsepower Ford Mustang Boss 302, the team was able to adapt several of the designs to the 5.0-liter.
The new Ford Mustang can be specified with a six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission. This advanced control strategy offers the driver a choice between fully automatic operation and manual control. The system is controlled with a selector button on the side of the shifter. The shifter has been upgraded for 2013 with more modern style and improved accessibility.
"This lets owners take an automatic out on a track day or whenever they want to drive sportier, and lets them have the convenience of switching to manual control," said Tom Barnes, Mustang vehicle engineering manager. "It's a significant improvement to our powertrain offerings that lets the driver take control."
This capability makes the Mustang experience sporty yet smooth. Unlike some competitors' transmissions, SelectShift won't second-guess the driver with an override shift. With SelectShift, manual control is truly manually controlled.
A new option, the GT Track Package, debuts for 2013 for customers who want to push their Ford Mustang even further at the track. Available only on manual GT Mustangs with a 3.73 axle, the package gives track enthusiasts an engine cooler, upgraded radiator, performance friction brake pads and the same Torsen® differential that's on Mustang Boss 302. The package includes everything in the current Brembo™ Brake Package, with 14-inch vented front discs, unique 19-inch alloy wheels and summer performance tires.
Other optional package updates for 2013 include offering the Brembo Brake Package on both manual and automatic transmissions on Ford Mustang GT. The V6 Performance Package is now available on automatic Mustangs for the first time.
Hill start assist makes its debut on manually equipped Mustangs. This feature helps keep the car from rolling backward, making it easier to pull away when on a slope or hill. With the brake pedal pressed, if sensors detect the car is on a slope, the system is automatically activated. Brake pressure is held in the braking system and the car remains stationary on the slope for up to two seconds after the driver releases the brake pedal.
A new 4.2-inch LCD productivity screen that lets customers access information related to fuel economy and vehicle performance also makes its debut on Mustang. The screen is navigated through a five-way control button located on the steering wheel and offers Track Apps, which delivers performance metrics for drivers right from the factory. The app measures g forces, shows acceleration times in quarter-mile and 0-60 increments, and displays braking times, complete with automatic and countdown starts.
The 2013 Ford Mustang also offers customers two new audio systems for even better sound quality for incredible clarity and crispness. The optional Shaker™ system comes with eight speakers and pumps out 370 watts of power. The upgraded Shaker Pro offers nine speakers and delivers 550 watts of power.

Ford Edge EcoBoost

The battle against fuel consumption is waged on many fronts. Full hybrids, mild hybrids, plug in hybrids, EVs, turbo diesels, direct-injection smaller displacement turbo engines – they’re all out there and growing in numbers. Ford is adopting the latter technology with its EcoBoost program.
We first saw the 3.5L EcoBoost direct-injection twin-turbo V6 as a V8 alternative/replacement, and now the single-turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder direct-injection 2.0-litre EcoBoost is offered as a $1,000 option in both the Ford Edge mid-sized crossover and Explorer full-size SUV. Mated with a six-speed auto, the EcoBoost models are front-wheel drive only.
I can hear the cries of derision. “You mean I have to pay extra for a four-banger and it’s only front wheel drive? Is the world going to hell in a hand basket?”
Well, it kinda is, in case you hadn’t noticed.

As long as North America continues its hunger for sizable crossovers and SUVs, the fuel-saving strategies available are pretty limited. Significant weight reduction and meaningful aerodynamic improvements are not really in the nature of these beasts. In light of this, EcoBoost makes sense, especially when considering most of these vehicles will function as family transport where perhaps improved fuel economy is considered more important than AWD.
Today, we’re looking at the 2012 Edge EcoBoost, here in upper Limited trim starting at $36,499. With this you’re getting leather, heated front seats (10-way driver’s), rear park-assist, back-up camera, 18-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control, 390-watt Sony audio and MyFord Touch.
Add a g-note for the engine, $800 for the 20-inch chrome wheels, $600 HID headlamps, $1,850 for the navigation and panoramic sunroof, $1,650 for the package that gives proximity key and push-button start, power liftgate, vision package and blind spot monitoring, $300 for the candy red paint, and the bottom line of this tester swelled to about 43 grand.
The EcoBoost engine is also available in the base SE and next-up SEL trim level.
The Edge EcoBoost claims 9.9 L/100 km city and 6.6 L/100 km highway against 11.1 and 7.2 for the 3.5-litre V6. And unlike the Range Rover Evoque, which uses essentially the same engine, the Edge runs on regular grade gas. My wintry week of mixed driving netted a respectable 10.4 L/100 km.
With an output of 240 hp, you’re giving up 45 ponies to the naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6, but torque swells from 253 lb-ft to 270 lb.-ft, with most of it on line by 1,700 rpm.
While you’d expect the four-banger to dish out its power under strained protest, the 2.0-litre EcoBoost is actually quieter and more refined than the V6 under most driving conditions. Once underway, the pressurized four never feels outgunned or flatfooted with turbo-lag. It’s a great match with this recently refreshed Edge.
As a Ford engineer put it, getting that kind of output from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder is the first challenge, then the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) guys have to go in there and tune out the nastiness — which they have done to great effect.

Ford Super Duty

Ford F-Series Super Duty customers demand a truck with toughness and capability, yet they still appreciate the amenities that make their driving experience more enjoyable. The 2013 F-Series Super Duty offers both, with a first-ever Platinum series model and the addition of SYNC® with MyFord Touch®.
"The F-Series Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury," said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty Marketing manager. "It has a distinct appearance and a long list of features to deliver a superior experience. Along with that, it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for."
Building on the success of the F-150 Platinum light-duty series that debuted in 2009, the F-Series Super Duty Platinum offers customers the ultimate in truck luxury.
Ford pioneered the high-end luxury truck segment in 1999 when it introduced the special-edition 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150. In 2003 the first King Ranch Super Duty arrived, followed by the 2004 Harley-Davidson Super Duty. Today, Ford sells a rich mix of high-end Lariat and King Ranch Super Duty models; the new Platinum will further meet the growing luxury needs of customers and dealers.
Available only in the Super Duty crew cab, it can be ordered as an F-250, F-350 or F-450 pickup and with the Ford-designed and Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel engine or the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine.
The Platinum series makes a bold statement with a grille that features a satin chrome surround highlighted by perforated mesh inside. The updated grille is enhanced by a monochromatic bumper and chrome tow hooks.
The exterior of the Super Duty Platinum is lavished in chrome, including the door handles, mirror caps, running boards and exhaust tip. The boxside on both sides of the truck sports the "Platinum" name in chrome letters and the tailgate is trimmed with a satin chrome appliqué, similar to the one used on the F-150 Platinum. Twenty-inch polished-aluminum wheels with painted black inserts round out the stunning exterior design of the Super Duty Platinum.

The interior showcases luxury in the form of unique wood grain appliqués. The steering wheel is heated and leather-wrapped, with genuine wood accents. The instrument panel, center stack and door trims are wrapped in premium wood grain. A new storage area on top of the dash includes two USB ports, audio-video connections, SD card slot and a 12-volt charging port for cell phones and other digital devices.
The driver's seat has 10-way power-adjustable seating and both captain's chairs are upholstered with softer, premium leather, which is also used on the armrests and console. Other evidence of fine craftsmanship includes the seats and floor mats, which feature the embroidered "Platinum" logo.
Other standard features include:
  • SYNC with MyFord Touch
  • Navigation System
  • Power-adjustable pedals
  • Rear view camera
  • Remote Start System
  • Universal garage door opener
  • Power-telescoping mirrors
Super Duty Platinum is available in Ruby Red, Kodiak Brown, Tuxedo Black, Ingot Silver and White Platinum. Interior color offerings include Pecan and Midnight Black. Another new exterior color, Blue Jean Metallic, will be available for Super Duty models other than Platinum.
Working harder and smarter
Unlike the past when a truck was often little more than a spartan work vehicle, today's truck customers won't compromise, and they expect capability, efficiency and refinement. The 2013 F-Series Super Duty eliminates any thought of compromise.
Standard Ford SYNCbrings award-winning voice-controlled connectivity into the cab of the most capable heavy-duty trucks available. With SYNC, Super Duty drivers can connect compatible mobile phones and media players via Bluetooth® or USB to make calls and play back music using voice control. In addition, drivers will get access to Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist®, both no-charge lifetime features, and SYNC Services including traffic alerts, business search and more - all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
The 2013 F-Series Super Duty builds on the foundation of SYNC with MyFord Touch, which is available for the first time. A new 8-inch, high-resolution touch screen display gives drivers easy access to phone, climate control, entertainment and navigation features along with a dramatically expanded voice control vocabulary.
The 8-inch display screen also provides a large, clear view behind the truck when in reverse to help drivers maneuver in tight spaces or line up conventional trailers with the truck's hitch.
Unique to Ford F-Series, designers have optimized the physical interface for MyFord Touch to accommodate truck users who may be wearing work gloves by providing easy access to climate controls and audio presets on the center stack. For video of MyFord Touch in Super Duty, click here.
The latest example of F-Series leadership in truck design, innovation and technology can be found in the 2013 Super Duty Platinum, available later in 2012.

Ford Escape Hybrid

Finally, after a little more than a decade, will be releasing a new Ford Escape compact SUV, or perhaps we should say, crossover utility vehicle. Since his debut as a 2001 model has the same shape and size of the escape with only basic exterior and the interior renovated maintained. In fact, the biggest news of the escape in the past 10 years from 2004 launch of the Escape Hybrid as model 2005. Only it was not the first hybrid car from Ford, it was the world's first hybrid SUV.
And if the new flight comes in late spring, will shed its boxy SUV look dated, replaced by a trendy crossover contemporary styling jelly beans - join the family car is a little blown unsure about their place in the automotive pecking order.
Inspired by the European Ford Mondeo, the new escape a big step forward, but leave something behind - a hybrid version. That's right, Ford will not offer a hybrid Escape.
Why are the hybrid powertrain, after all these years? Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development, said the EcoBoost four-cylinder engines, Ford fuel would "provide existing hybrid approaches." He added that argued the automakers that an escape mpg not a higher rating would be needed to to attract buyers. The more compelling reason is the hybrid Ford bets on the next C-Max models. The C-Max Hybrid and the C-Max Energi are plug-in hybrid models developed dedicated compete with the growing Toyota Prius lineup. Kuzak said that the C-Max is a multi-activity vehicle, which is almost the same functionality as the flight and provides a lower fuel consumption. C-Max will go on sale in the second half of 2012.
No mention of Kuzak, but maybe some other reason, the Escape Hybrid is still not selling. After peaking in 2007 with a turnover of 20 961 units, were the small hybrid SUV with sales of 11 183 at the end of 2011.
Since the Escape Hybrid is a lame duck - production ends in March - there are no changes for the 2012 model year. Two trim levels are offered on the Escape Hybrid, base and Limited. The base two-wheel drive has a manufacturer suggested retail price of $ 30,570 is $ 32,320 four-wheel drive. The Limited trim starts at $ 33,080 2WD and 4WD at $ 34,830.The Escape hybrid powertrain starts with a 155-hp 2.5-liter lean-burn, Atkinson-cycle gasoline engines motivating tasks, with a 94-hp permanent magnet motor. Planetary gear transmits the mixed output, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) that the force leads to the front wheels.
The differences in the torque curve of the gasoline engine and electric motor means that the system is 177 horsepower, more than enough power for a compact SUV. Ford does not publish figures for the electric motor torque, but the four-cylinder engine produces 136 pounds-feet.If "full" hybrid system, Escape Hybrid can under pure electric power only gasoline alone or a combination of the two works. The system makes all the decisions: when to motor, motor, or both, participate. Assuming that the 330-volt nickel-metal hydride battery charged in a state that it is easy by up to a speed of 44 miles per hour electric power. It takes a light foot, but not to the point of the company's ordinary traffic. Usually start small hybrid SUVs, stop and cruise at 44 mph for about two miles off the gas engine kicks in automatically fill the batteries. Higher than speed or distance, or to accelerate at a faster pace and the transition to diesel power is almost seamless.
The Escape Hybrid saves gas by automatically switching off the engine when you stop and hold them to a dead end, while it is running on battery accessories. The engine fires again when the accelerator is touched. The 2012 Escape Hybrid features classic proportions and adheres to the "Ford Tough" look that is found on the brand of pick-up line. For many buyers is what an SUV should look and what for almost all of an era of curved cross-overs.Front cover has a unique "reverse crease" design that tends to the eye the power center of the vehicle - an informed and intelligent design methodology is to focus on performance. The front has headlights that sweep up to the front corners and flank an upright radiator grille. Design elements are large front and rear fender flares and the back is typical of old-school SUV rectangular design with a split tailgate.
There is nothing special about the interior of the Escape hybrid design, despite all the counters are easy to read and switches have a great look. The tachometer with green area below the zero, to indicate when the vehicle runs on electric power. An additional gauge shows whether the electric motor, the battery is charging or the support of the Otto engine. Both are useful for behavioral changes in the search for optimal fuel economy in terms of functionality, the front seats are comfortable, even for large adults, but some critics think, the chairs are too high, causing a sensation of hovering over the controls. The rear seat has room for three, but the lack of adjustments for reclining and slide back / again. There is a respectable 30.9 cubic meters of luggage, folding the second row of seats, bringing the total to 66 cubic meters. Unlike the regular Escape, which has a storage capacity under the load floor, there is no such surface, here, since the space occupied by a high voltage of the hybrid from the battery. The Escape Hybrid is a throwback appearance and dated inside, but only a few intersections may be fit from a vintage collection of gadgets and features. These include electric power steering, it improves fuel economy by removing a hydraulic system draw on the motor. It is also possible a series of smooth functions.
Can measure the optional Active Park Assist parallel parking space and a suitable back then uses the electrical control of the flight into space, while the driver - hands off the wheel - the rate determined by the brake. That's a neat trick, but even more important and useful is the electric power steering allows Ford pull-drift compensation. This function compares the driver fatigue and improves control by automatically drift-causing factors such as heavy crowned road or crosswind to compensate.
By most standards, has the luxury Lexus SUV hybrid is called a smash success since it was first held in 2006 to life. A significant number of Lexus SUV buyers opted for the "hybrid upgrade" to make the Lexus RX 400h, as it was known that, almost as popular as the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Until November 2011, the RX 450h, the second best-selling Lexus hybrid models, limited by the peak of the CT 200h compact sedan.
Dormant after leaving the original series RX hybrid in 2009, Toyota came back in the 2010 model year with the 450h, which delivers more power available and significantly lower fuel consumption. In other words, they raised the ante.
What is the significance of the shift in the vehicle, the name of 400h to 450h number? In the gas powered versions, the number is a code for the shift is, it means that the RX 350, that the vehicle has a 3.5-liter engine. Lexus punch those numbers in the hybrids are the RX 450h because of the combination of a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and electric motor-generator, the power of a 4.5-liter engine.
For model year 2012, the RX 450h has no significant changes. The RX 450h is to start in the front-wheel drive (FWD) model with a base price of $ 45,235 and a four-wheel drive (AWD) versions at $ 46,845. The prices reflect a $ 500 more than in model year 2011 for both cars. The gas-electric RX 450h features a 3.5-liter V-6 Atkinson-cycle engine (a cheaper version of the conventional four-stroke gasoline engine), which is rated at 245 horsepower and 234 pound-feet of torque. The front-drive hybrid powertrain uses two motor-generators model. One is a motor-driven generator, which acts as a starter and can charge the battery or other power electric motors as needed recharge. The second is a 167-hp engine, which uses the gas engine to power the front wheels. The overall performance of this coupling is 295 hp. And no, the combined number of 295 hp not a typo. Peak power for the gas RX 450h occur the engine and the electric motor at different speeds. Therefore, in combination represent peak power delivery capabilities in real terms, taking into account the unique peak occurs at any speed. The motor and the drive motor with a continuously variable transmission, which aims at the power management is means that the RX 450h maximizes efficiency. In addition to the engine and the engine is a 288-volt nickel-metal hydride battery is properly in the second row of seats. If the vehicle decelerates, absorbs some of the energy and power source.
A third, rear-mounted motor-generator is added with the AWD model to the rear wheels for steering. Although the luxury hybrid SUV is a four-wheel drive car, it is not suitable for off-road. The system has no mechanical drive shaft from front to back, and no energy transfer gearbox. Instead, only provide more torque from the rear surface as electrical demand.
Like all Lexus hybrid, the RX 450h in the purely electric or gas engine-only mode and a combination of the two works. Under certain circumstances, a driver-selectable EV mode the vehicle short distances (ie, a mile or so) with the driving electric motors. And is sufficiently charged with the batteries, the hybrid system of the engine when the vehicle is stationary, and then again when the brake pedal is released. The result of this electronic wizardry with the V-6 combines an EPA fuel economy rating of 32/28 city / highway and 30 combined with the FWD model, while the AWD version has estimates of 30/28/29. This is the best economy of all luxury SUV available - gasoline, diesel or hybrid.
Outside
Critics blasted early Lexus models for non-implementation of the distinction from the competition - some said the cars looked like they were glued together from the remains of other luxury cars. This is not the case anymore. Lexus has now called an aesthetic philosophy "L-finesse" which, if nothing else, it helped forge a clear stylistic identity, an automobile manufacturer. The RX 450h is the second generation of the L-finesse design with the fastback profile, low-set grille and sharp angular elements. Pronounced front fenders flow into the doors, and integrated rear fender flares neatly in order to get close to sweep to the rear corners of the vehicle. The RX 450h hybrid has a few styling elements differs from the RX 350, including a stylized front grille and bumper, hybrid badge with blue-trimmed Lexus logos, a 19-inch optional wheels and blue tinted headlights and taillights.
Interior
The interior of the RX 450h is everything you would expect from a luxury SUV, but a number of features you would expect that standard costs to get a little more. The 450h is equipped with 10 airbags, a nine-speaker sound system, an interactive information display, dual-zone climate control, among other things, but if you really want the full luxury car experience you have to pay more. Twelve-and 15-speaker sound systems are available, as well as video monitors blind spots, and above all, new Lexus Remote 'touch control system that comes with the optional navigation system.Think Lexus Remote Touch is the technology to replace touch-screen consoles, too much attention and need to reach from the driver. With Remote Touch, the driver is navigating the vehicle onboard computer with a small touch-activated joystick located at the foot of the center console. Although a bit of a learning curve, once you master Remote Touch is a revelation.
Like other luxury brand hybrids, the RX 450h show on screen the power flow between the electric motor drive, motor and battery. Instead of the tachometer RX 350 is a counter with an electric motor with respect to the chargeability support.
Front seats and cushions are made for long-distance comfort, and plenty of seating and steering wheel adjustments make it easy for a customized comfortable driving position. Imitate the sliding rear doors "Comfort Plus it back and forth, but also lying position.Behind the rear, the RX 400h has an average amount of space for five passengers mid-size SUV. It offers 40 cubic feet with the seats folded and 80.3 cubic feet with rear seats.
On The Road
The hybrid drive system is seamless in operation and the engine start / stop function is not observable. Overall, the RX 400h delivers a very quiet and comfortable, car-like ride. Smooth power delivery is immediate, but to merge and to pass or to move quickly through traffic with ease.
When it comes to handling, the RX is not a corner carver. It's a long, heavy vehicles, with the suspension in the sense of comfort resulting in abnormal tilting of the vehicle body, elected on smooth curves. Lacking in other words, exciting performance. But the "fun factor" is not the whole story when it comes to the RX 450h. Sure, it's what brings people, cars for a living out of bed every morning, but most drivers are for something, try to find the simple, safe and efficient - qualities of the RX 450h has in spades.
And in this consumption: our 127-mile test drive a AWD model a few years ago showed 31.6 mpg, easily beating EPA numbers.
Economy
This is one of the few luxury hybrids on the market, the fuel actually contributes to the so-called "hybrid premium" over the average life of the vehicle. The 450h The starting price of less than $ 46,000 means that the fuel is added at a cost of about $ 6,100 is compared to its non-hybrid brother, the RX 350th For the city, this boost efficiency 14 mpg on the highway is the difference between a much more modest 3 mpg.
For about $ 1,000 less than the base FWD RX hybrid, a Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited comes with a number of standard luxury features like leather seats, which is optional on the 450h. Plus, placing seven, four-wheel drive and the standard fuel consumption figure is 28/28/28, not far from the Lexus.
If you are on a luxury crossover, but sporty performance is more important than fuel economy, look BMW X5. It is one of the sportiest in the luxury SUV segment, and each of the turbo engines takes a lot of punch. Of $ 47,500 for the X5 is expensive compared to the rest of the class, but not much more expensive than the Lexus RX 450h.
Do you want luxury, good handling and above average fuel economy? The diesel Volkswagen Touareg can not be neglected. The interior is spacious, comfortable and quality of materials and fit and finish are top drawer. VW's twin-turbo diesel engine of 225 hp and coils burly 406 pounds-feet of torque, while delivering an EPA fuel economy rating of 19/28/22. Price from $ 46,475, it's more fun to drive than the Lexus, but not more than the BMW.
Conclusion: There are more powerful, entertaining and attractive way to carry five people and their weekend stuff, but that's not what the RX hybrid is. It's about the destination, not the station. And, oh, that fuel when you arrive.

Standard of the Ford / Microsoft Sync is infotainment. This basic setup can sync to ensure turn-by-turn directions and other information about the audio system. Covered with the optional voice-activated, hard drive navigation system, Bluetooth Sync extended to include audio streaming, iPod, USB interface, and detailed mapping and information services. Also available is "MyKey" is a system, the owner, reduce the vehicle speed and volume can be -. A big plus for parents Other available add-ons include a remote start feature, rear DVD entertainment system, back close-up alarm and rear view camera.
On the safe side contains the Escape Hybrid Roll Stability Control stability. It is the only system with a sensor that detects the onset of a rollover and have to stop him.It is interesting that the introduction of the flight was one of the first crossover SUVs. It combines a four-door body with a front-wheel-drive, car-type chassis from the Mazda 6 to a single form unibody structure borrowed. It was compact, light, and one of the first SUV with an all-independent suspension. The Escape Hybrid is the car-like qualities.

Like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V has the Escape Hybrid rather stiff suspension, but the ride is quiet and smooth, with a good absorption of shocks. Body roll is present but not overdone. The electric power steering provides a high level of Assist, which means it does not take much effort to the steering wheel. Control is precise, with minimal play in the steering. The hybrid powertrain delivers acceptable acceleration that gives the courage to back up the highway. According to Ford, the system is zero to 60 mph according to the speed of 240 hp V-6.The Ford Escape Hybrid is certainly the most efficient crossover SUVs on the market. The use is in itself one of the most important demands a vehicle these days can, given the popularity of these vehicles, combined with the need for economic solutions to the rising price of gasoline. To this end, the front-wheel drive version of a federal fuel economy rating of 34 city/31 highway and 32 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive model offers 30/27/29.
At $ 30,570, ordered the base Escape Hybrid is nearly $ 6,000 premium over its gasoline-powered Escape counterpart. This makes it one of the most expensive compact SUVs, but it's cheaper than most hybrid SUVs. Compared with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX 400h hybrid, it is much cheaper - but still well equipped.
Since this is a lame duck vehicle has its advantages. If Ford knew the inventories of the 2012 escape hybrid that opens the door to find a unique offering by generous manufacturer incentives and deep discounts to dealers.
If dated SUV styling is not your thing, you have until summer for the C-Max Hybrid wait to come. It should be priced about the same as the Escape Hybrid and provide economical. The downside is, the interior is a bit smaller and it is unknown whether AWD will be offered.
Hybrid boasting not important to you? Models like the RAV4 and CR-V combined to fuel subsidy in the high 20s - both of these vehicles, in particular, is well known that a better quality and greater refinement to build for less money.

Ford EcoSport

Modern and innovative, the all-new Ford EcoSport was designed to combine best-in-class design, technology, quality and safety aimed at attracting a new generation of consumers in different global markets.
Created as the latest One Ford global product, the EcoSport will be a key model in expanding Ford's presence in major worldwide growth markets, including India, Brazil and the ASEAN markets. It has been developed in South America at one of Ford's eight global product development centres in conjunction with teams from Asia, Europe and North America to meet the needs of markets across the globe.
"The all-new Ford EcoSport reflects our commitment to serve our customers with the cars and trucks they truly want and value," said Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company. "Our engineering team used their years of EcoSport experience to make every aspect of the next-generation EcoSport even stronger."

The all-new Ford EcoSport exemplifies the DNA of Ford global vehicles and its versatility broadens the horizons of mobility and use. Its genuine SUV confidence starts in the stability of the chassis, reinforced by the body's robust build, high torsional stiffness and high levels of protection for its occupants. Yet, its innovative design reduces the weight and ensures good fuel efficiency.
The all-new Ford EcoSport's contemporary shape conveys confidence while combining refinement and an adventurous spirit in an intelligent and modern package. It sports key SUV cues such as the confident stance, command driving position and signature spare wheel mounted on a swing-gate at the rear of the vehicle.
The EcoSport's hardy character and strong stance give it the appearance of a larger vehicle, while retaining the agility and practicality of a compact car. It features high ground clearance and integrated lower body cladding for robustness.
The back of the vehicle is marked by a large rear window which wraps around to the sides and oblique shaped taillights. This characteristic defines the striking personality of the Ford EcoSport family: a sporty and casual car, for consumers who want to stand out and who want more from life, but in an intelligent and sustainable way.
New global products for growth markets
Previewing the vehicle design first at the 11th Annual Auto Expo in New Delhi gives Ford the opportunity to introduce EcoSport to consumers in one of the world's biggest automotive growth markets ahead of its future global rollouts.
The new EcoSport was developed on Ford's new global B-segment platform, which will be the basis for an array of new small-car products from Ford in the coming years. By mid-decade, the new Ford B-platform family of vehicles will represent more than 2 million units of annual production as compact cars continue to drive global growth.
The Ford EcoSport has been a market phenomenon since it was launched in South America in 2003 as the region's first affordable SUV, selling 700,000 vehicles in nine years. It created a new segment and popularized features that many consumers had wanted.
The Ford EcoSport will be produced at ultra-modern, flexible assembly plants in Brazil, India, and other markets to be announced at a later time. The EcoSport as a global vehicle is an example of the technical ability of Ford's global engineering and high level of integration of the design and engineering centres around the world.
The project was led by Ford's Development Center in Camaçari, Brazil, one of the most specialized in the development of compact cars. The team leveraged Ford engineering strength and SUV expertise from around the world to create the all-new Ford EcoSport.
"The new EcoSport is a significant milestone for our global product development process," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "It proves that great small-car models for growth markets can be created in growth markets, using One Ford to leverage our global design and engineering expertise."
Ford EcoSport's development was shaped by market research in all of the regions where it will be sold. This helped create a unique vehicle, focused on the needs and desires of consumers. It will eventually be sold in nearly 100 markets worldwide.
Fuelling expansion in Asia and beyond
The all-new EcoSport is a significant linchpin in Ford's aggressive global plan to achieve its goal of increasing worldwide sales by nearly 50 percent by mid-decade to 8 million vehicles a year. Of that figure, 60 to 70 percent is expected to come from the Asia Pacific and Africa region.

"We've promised to bring more than 50 new vehicles and powertrains to Asia Pacific and Africa by mid-decade and the all-new EcoSport continues to deliver on that pledge," said Joe Hinrichs, president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa. "Endowed with traits that customers in markets like India will want and value, this exciting compact SUV will define a new segment in the small car market."
The Ford EcoSport is the second of eight products slated to be launched in India by mid-decade and will bring about further momentum in a business transformation that was kick started by the Ford Figo and strengthened by the new Ford Fiesta sedan. Ford India's shift from niche automaker to volume player is supported by several new investments in the country.
Ford recently broke ground in Sanand, Gujarat as part of an investment of approximately USD 1 billion to build new vehicle manufacturing and engine plants. Ford also announced earlier an investment of USD 72 million by this year (2012) to expand its already operating powertrain facility in Chennai. Ford's total investment in India to date is approximately USD 2 billion.
The new EcoSport will be produced in the integrated Chennai manufacturing facility which has been transformed with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units and is now positioned as a Ford regional centre of excellence for compact-car engineering and production. Ford EcoSport models will be also produced at the plant for export to international markets.
"Following the success of the game-changing Ford Figo and 'tech-tastic' Fiesta sedan, the all-new Ford EcoSport will certainly broaden our showroom offering in India, keeping in step with the aspirations of our customers," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India. "With its tremendous value story, we're confident this compact SUV will greatly bolster our presence in the competitive Indian market."
Strengths Under EcoSport's New Shape
Designed to offer balanced performance on paved roads as well as off-road terrain, the all-new Ford EcoSport is ideal for the urban consumer who wants the versatility to escape the city.
Developed to world-class product standards via the Ford global product development system, the next-generation model delivers on key traits customers all around the world demand:
  • Smart - New technology and features from Ford will be central to the all-new Ford EcoSport ownership experience. It will offer innovative equipment normally not found in this class of vehicle.
  • Green - Fuel efficiency was a key factor in the development process, as Ford targets the EcoSport to deliver leading fuel economy in its segment.
  • Safe - The all-new Ford EcoSport has been engineered to meet the most demanding safety standards in the various markets where it will be sold. Its weight-optimized, highly resistant body, developed with advanced software and design tools, combines zones aimed to absorb the forces of impact with an extremely rigid cell to protect its occupants.
  • Quality - The all-new Ford EcoSport will deliver impressive levels of quality and craftsmanship, reflecting its new world-class design and engineering story, and has endured rigorous developmental testing around the globe. Low maintenance costs and great durability were also key objectives in the development process.
